We are excited to be recruiting for this new opportunity with our client, a leading Scottish law firm. The firm is seeking an Associate to join its Regulation and Markets Team in either its Edinburgh or Glasgow office. This dynamic team advises on a broad range of complex regulatory issues, combining regulatory and commercial expertise with competition and public law.

This role would be ideal for candidates interested in diverse disciplines, focusing on energy regulation, competition law, subsidy control, public law, procurement, and foreign direct investment (FDI). Key responsibilities will include:

  • Guiding utility networks on complex price control issues, including an electricity transmission company’s appeal to the CMA against Ofgem.
  • Supporting major UK generation and transmission projects, including prominent offshore wind farms.
  • Assisting with regulatory investigations by UK authorities.
  • Advising on innovative energy initiatives like hydrogen and CCUS.
  • Representing a company in an EU Commission price-fixing investigation.

To be considered for this role, you will have at least 4+ years’ PQE and experience in a similar legal field. You should be confident in conducting legal research and possess a strong understanding of energy regulation, as well as public and competition law, however candidates with general litigation or regulatory experience will also be considered.
