FWA – VIDEO INTERVIEW TIPS

With video interviews here to stay we have outlined below some useful tips to help in your interview preparation:  

  • Download Zoom, Microsoft Teams or whichever video platform being used a few days prior to your interview.
  • Check the camera and audio on your device is working efficiently.
  • Ensure your internet connection is stable.
  • Fully charge your device before the interview.
  • Close any other browser tabs and applications you have open.
  • Log into to interview 10 minutes early so you are calm and prepared for it to start.
  • Find a quiet, private, and well-lit area that is free from interruptions. Natural lighting is best.
  • Ensure your background is free from clutter.
  • Place your phone on silent.
  • Dress professionally as if it was an in-person interview.
  • Maintain good eye contact throughout. Look directly into the camera and not your screen or picture.
  • Ensure you have good posture and use hand gestures to show you are engaged throughout.
  • Project your voice and pause for a moment after speaking to allow for any delays.
  • If there are any loud noise interruptions, apologise to the interviewer and put your microphone on mute until the noise subsides.
